Coleman is Lancashire-born. She graduated from Arnold School Blackpool, where she scored straight A grades at all A-levels. Steven Moffat announced at a Doctor Who press conference on 21 March that Coleman, who had replaced Karen Gillan as the companion of the Doctor following Arthur Darvill left the series will be taking on the role along with Matt Smith.
